Celebrating 10 Years of SALSA: Our Commitment to Food Safety for Chefs

Jan 28, 2025Nikita Singh

We’re proud to announce that Mustard Foods has once again achieved full SALSA accreditation. A decade of consistent SALSA compliance proves our commitment to quality and food safety standards for UK chefs and restaurants.

In his 2025 report, SALSA auditor Simon Doff notes “Mustard’s food safety system is well established and is being strengthened year on year”. Simon’s detailed report accurately reflects the hard work from our technical team, and the continuous improvements in quality and safety standards.

What is SALSA?

SALSA stands for Safe and Local Supplier Approval. It’s a trusted certification created by food safety experts to help manufacturers meet legal requirements and provide the quality professional chefs and food buyers expect.

For a decade, we’ve proven that Mustard Foods consistently operates safely and maintains the highest quality and safety standards year on year.

With a robust technical and quality system in place, Mustard Foods is fully compliant in all areas of safety including Training & Supervision, Cleaning, Allergen Management, Control of Suppliers & Raw Materials, and HACCP Records.

Why Food Safety and SALSA matter to Chefs

For chefs and restaurants, food safety is non-negotiable. Whether it's the development of bespoke sauces for a leading UK chain or supplying wholesale products to a 5-star hotel, chefs rely on suppliers like us to deliver safe and reliable, high quality food.

At Mustard Foods, our 10-year SALSA accreditation is a key part of maintaining quality and safety standards. It demonstrates our commitment to food safety, allergen management and consistency that the UK foodservice industry can trust.

Adrian McCaffrey, our HR & Facilities Manager, shares “We’re incredibly proud to have achieved SALSA accreditation for 10 years running. We appreciate all the hard work and effort put in by our experienced technical and production teams for maintaining consistently high standards throughout the year.”

What’s next for Mustard Foods and food safety?

As Simon notes in his audit report, Mustard has an excellent food safety culture which we continue to nurture and maintain year on year. Through online platforms, every team member in the Mustard kitchen receives comprehensive training and refresher courses on food safety, allergens and hygiene.

Simon concludes: “Food safety is led by an experienced technical manager who has three technical assistants. The company is also supported by an experienced independent technical consultant. Consequently, there is a strong food safety culture.”

Here’s to the next 10 years of quality, consistency, and SALSA success!
